The schools today have a tremendous responsibility of nurturing a deep sense of right and wrong in the minds of our future citizens. Development of intellectual qualities such as reflection, introspection and tolerance becomes imperative as-does the ability to overcome negative emotions. I feel that in this day and age when the world shortening and shrinking and the concept of global has come in, it is essential imbue our children with ‘think global, act local’. In this time when every nation is talking about peace but actually preparing for war, when money spent manufacturing a bomb could well be spent on educating millions of children, when trigger happy terrorists are roaming high on the streets, it is important that a young generation is sanitized and motivated enough to push away such cynicism and imbibe all that is good.
My counsel to all the wonderful young people is to ‘keep smiling’ as it is free, infectious and can’t be taxed. Develop a healthy sense o humour and laugh with others, not at them. Consistent faith in the Almighty is equally significant, as there are no problems that cannot be solved with strength and courage, coupled with His blessings.
I congratulate you and your staff for doing such a wonderful service to the society and the nation.
